Overview
Rajasthan
produces around 40% of the country's raw wool and this sector
supports nearly 30 lakh persons in the state. Ancillary industries
of wool and woolen products employ 35,000 people at Jaipur
& near by areas. Carpet industry is utilizing 85% of total
wool production in India. Beawar, Jaisalmer, Bikaner are major
wool market in Rajasthan where raw wool is sold. Rajasthan
is well known internationally for ethnic Carpet, Elegant Namadah
Pattu and Woolen Shawls. Wool and woolen products enjoy a
share of almost 10% in the national market. Besides suitability
of carpet the local wools
have infact been the backbone of
cottage Industry and sustenance source of rural and tribal
families. Most of the rural families are dependant on Agriculture
and Livestock in Rajasthan. People in Northern and Western
part of Rajasthan are fully dependant on Livestock.
Wool
and Woolen Products offer skill based manufacturing units
with flexibility in capital requirements thus offering good
potential as a means to provide employment according to Rajasthan
chamber of commerce and industry selected WWP as one Sub -
Sector and Tonk as a principle district for its interventions.
Wool
and Woolen products is prime focus Sub - Sector for interventions
for overall objective of creating 300 sustainable jobs, Namda
and Namda
products of Tonk and near by areas is famous in
the world for its elegance and smoothness. The district Tonk
is located between longitudes 75' 07' and 76, 19' and latitude
25' 41' and 26' 34'. It is bounded in the north by Jaipur
districts, in the east by Sawai Madhopur district and in the
south by Kota, Bundi and Bhilwara districts and in the west
by the Ajmer district. The total geographical area of Tonk
district is 7.16 lac hectares.
Contemplated
interventions 
-
Setup and operationalise Common Interest Groups (CIGs)
for overall objective of creating sustainable jobs.

Capacity building of the group by skill transfer and imparting
upgradation trainings, using experts and master craftsmen
preferably from local areas.

Organize buyers / sellers meets to establish marketing
linkages and training on marketing practices.

Provide motivational and managerial support to smooth
their business & industrial activities.

Organize & conduct other related trainings, interactions
and
services deemed essential for creating conducive social
environment.

Facilitate preparation of loan applications and assistance
for credit linkages with bank / financial institutions.
- Liaise
with District Industries Centre, Khadi Village Industry
Board, District Rural Development Agency / Service area
banks and other institutions for providing access to various
schemes and grants of state & central government.
Achievements
(i) the intervention carried out on 125 potential micro-entrepreneurs, 106 members now have sustainable earnings.
(ii) Monthly income of these entrepreneurs has increased from neglible to Rs.800-1500.
(iii) Majority of the micro entrepreneurs are females who are supplementing the family income
(iv) Micro entrepreneurs have now graduated to micro-enterprises where various activities such as procurement of raw material production, marketing and finance are performed.
(v) Improvement has been made in the areas of literacy, health and hygiene and women empowerment as a result of which:
Children have started going to school
Female micro entrepreneurs can read/write
Women are sharing their views/experiences and are undertaking job work business and participation in fairs & exhibitions.
(vi) Health and Hygiene of micro entrepreneurs families has improved.
(vii) Networking has been done with various development agencies like NABARD, SIDBI, DRDA, DIC, KVIB, BDO, D.C. Handicrafts.
(viii) Capacity building of micro entrepreneurs by providing new design inputs on stitched and appliqué work on various products to equip the micro entrepreneurs with latest demands and trends of the market.
(ix) Market empowerment of micro entrepreneurs has been made by making them participate in various exhibitions and fairs like IITF, Craft-Ind, Delhi Haat, Rajasthan International Fair etc.
(x) Micro entrepreneurs are now in a position to contribute 20% towards cost of demand based inputs.
(xi) After seeing the progress of Bharani & Kakod clusters new clusters at Sandeela and Khelnia have started mushrooming and in due time might turn out into promising new clusters.
