Rajasthan
is the land of celebrations. The spirit of romance, valour
and faith is quintessential to Rajasthan and is delicately
yet inseparably blended in its art, culture and hauntingly
addictive music and dance. Rajasthan's tradition can be captured
at its festive best at the fairs and festivals, which are
dazzlingly theatrical and lively. The festivities are marked
by folk dances and music played on a variety of locally made
instruments.
Rural
Culture of Rajasthan
The true spirit of Rajasthan resides in its villages where,
the real culture comes forth in all its glory through a colourful
variety of folk dance and music which is an important and
inseparable element of Rajasthan's rich tradition.
There
are about 200 different folk groups, predominantly belonging
to rural areas. Some communities like Dholi, Kammad, Mirasi,
Sargara, Bhand, Nat, Sansi, Kanjar and Kalbelia are traditionally
associated with music, dance and entertainment and have devotedly
guarded its music tradition over the decades.
Rajasthani
culture is rich and varied and has the devotional and amorous
as well as festival and occasional touch in it.
RCCI's Strategy
Using culture as a potential instrument for creating sustainable
jobs for hitherto underrecognized artists of rural areas,
RCCI has planned to undertake activities on the following
lines:
- Selection
of 1 or 2 rural areas having potential for Rajasthani
folk dances
-
Identification & motivation of focus group members
-
Organizing training program & workshops
-
Organizing commercial presentation program
Contemplated
rural & semi-urban areas for desired interventions including
Sanganer, Alwar respectively.
